Essay on Forgiveness
Forgiveness has been described as a superiority by which one ceases to experience anger against another for a wrong he or she has committed against oneself. Forgiveness can be granted with or without the other asking for forgiveness. Some people also believe that persons can forgive themselves that it is possible to forgive groups of people, or that it is possible to be forgiven by God. Forgiveness can be seen as a religious value. However, belief in a deity is not necessary for forgiveness. It can be motivated by love, philosophy, appreciation for the forgiveness of others, empathy, or personal temperament. Even pure pragmatism can lead to forgiveness, as it is well documented that people who forgive are happier than those who hold grudges.
Anyone who has ever been snubbed and that includes victims of offense, accident victims, adult survivors of childhood neglect, opinionated prisoners, and so on—must decide whether or not to forgive the perpetrator. There can be no middle ground to this decision: either you decide to forgive the person who hurt you or you hold on to bitterness and anger. Holding on to bitterness and anger can cause problems of their own, so if you have ever been victimized, being able to forgive your victimizer is a crucial part of your healing. Forgiveness, however, can be a problem for many people simply because they are not clear about what forgiveness really is. All too often forgiveness gets confused with reconciliation, a larger process of which forgiveness is but one part. (Pope, Stephen J)
Forgiveness is renowned in Christianity as a holy present. Pious forgiveness does not essentially have any link with substance or fiscal forgiveness. One may spiritually forgive another, nevertheless expect that the other should still make material or financial amends. God is believed to be the source of all forgiveness.................
