Essay on The Influence of Play on Child's Development
What is play? Is it opposite of work? Yes! Most people do think of it that way. Equating play with, goofing off, wasting time, being lazy, eloping of work, or, what about leisure. “Stop playing! Don’t you have any work to do?” Doesn’t our ear come across this sentence quite often? Have you ever realized why play always contradicts work?
Not many of us probably know, it is through play that we do much of our learning (Elizabeth, 2001). We learn best when we are having fun. Play, more than any other activity, invigorate healthy development of children — and consequently the continued healthy development of adults.
From our birth on, we play — we play using our bodies (structuring with blocks) and our minds (dream play). We use words to play (jokes, wit, and humor) and we use props (blocks, toys, games). As we grow, the exact nature of play evolves, becoming more sophisticated with time (Elizabeth, 2001).
Play takes many forms, but the spirit of all play is delight and pleasure. If it isn't fun, it isn't play.
Childhood at work
Childhood, which is the most sweetest chapter of life, is universal and children‘s play is universal too. Neither you nor can I deny that. Play is fundamental to every aspect of children‘s development, whether it be social or physical or cognitive. Many amongst us, still disregard this fact and render rejection and no respect to the idea of play and its influence on the healthy child development.
Play cultivates many skills and demand teamwork, co-operation and collaboration. Without the existence of the above, there is no game. Play fosters all the important social skills, sharing, turn taking, developing and consolidating friendships and how to cope with children‘s feelings of love, joy, anger and frustration (Charles, 2000)....................
