Introduction
Generally defined, Psychology is the science of human behavior and mental/cognitive processes. With time, the filed of psychology has made important advances, which have brought us closer to understand people’s actions and thought processes. Psychology is considered an exceptionally diverse discipline, sharing similar theories with Physiology, the study on the biological bases of behavior, and on the other sharing with Sociology, a concern with society and behavior. In a similar approach, Psychology contributes to fields as contrasting as Cognitive Science, Philosophy, Health, Psychiatry, Organizational Management and Education. The popularity of Psychology appears to emerge from four major factors: its inherent interest; its apparent relevance to life in modern society; its role as a helping profession; and its value in the job market. To better understand psychology we are naturally inclined to think and ask ourselves: Why do we study psychology? What importance does it hold for life? Does it help make crucial life decisions and solve complex problems? Will it give rise to better human beings? And last but not least, are we able to improve moral standards and purify our souls from the help of it? To answer these questions, we are required to focus attention on principles leading to human actions, thoughts, feelings, emotions, attitudes, etc. A study of psychology guides us directly into the realm of these elements of human behavior, and provides a rational basis for understanding others and ourselves. In fact, psychology is much more than mere understanding of human behavior. It helps develop the ability to apply its principles on others and ourselves in the day-to-day dealings with them.
