Essay on Aggressive Behavior
Society is a large population, usually enduring at least several generations and sharing a territory and a way of life. Social structure represents the motorways of our social world: the stable, predictable, patterned relationships among people. This structure organizes our social life and channels our behaviors as the roadways channel the flow of traffic. While it limits our choices and confines our behavior to certain socially approved alternatives, it also confers on our social life order, routine, and coherence. Daydreams aside, a complex culture such as United States culture, obviously requires such structures to coordinate all its parts so that the system can function.
The dramatic escalation of violence committed by and against people is shocking (Eron et al., 1994). Although according to Federal Bureau of Investigation, the murder rate in the year 1998 dropped almost 8 percent in comparison of the murder rate of 1997. Similarly crime rate of crimes like rape and assault had been decreased up to 5 percent each and crime rates of robbery and burglary fell by 11 percent and 7 percent respectively (Federal Bureau of Investigation, 1999) but still the violence among the youth has increased sharply.
There is no simple explanation for the presence of aggression, nor is there any obvious, easy way to reduce it. The fundamental basis of violence is absolutely clear: the human capacity for aggression.
Aggression:
Aggression can be defined as behavior that is intended to injure another person. Aggressive behaviors come in many forms. Words as well as deeds can be aggressive. Quarrelling couples who intend their spiteful remarks to hurt are behaving aggressively. Even failure to act can be aggressive. To distinguish them from less armful behaviors, extreme acts of aggression are called violence. Some other terms in the language of aggression refer to emotions and attitudes..................
