Essay on Career Research on Psychology
Psychology is the science concerned with mind and behavior and spans subject matter from biology to sociology. Many problems facing society today are problems about behavior – drug addiction, personal and work relationships, violence, stress and our relationship with our environment.
Psychologists conduct research, serve as consultants to communities and organizations, diagnose and treat people with psychological adjustment disorders, teach, study work, home and social environments, promote physical and mental health, and develop solutions to meet the unique needs of the United States society and elsewhere.
Some of the sub-fields in psychology include clinical, counseling, developmental, educational, engineering, forensic, health, geropsychology, industrial/organization, neuropsychology, quantitative and measurement, physiological, psychometrics, rehabilitation, school, social and sports.
With a graduate degree (M.A. or Ph.D), psychologists specialize in many different areas within the field. Clinical psychologists assess and treat mental and emotional disorders, while counseling psychologists counsel couples and families who are having difficulties, or help people deal with "problems in living", difficult life events and change. Industrial/ organizational psychologists apply psychology theories and research findings to the workplace, to improve the management of human resources, productivity and job satisfaction.
Developmental psychologists specialize in human cognitive, emotional, and psychological development across the lifespan. Other psychologists specialize in topics like sports psychology, health psychology (health, stress, and illness), forensic psychology (legal and criminal issues), educational or school psychology, and social psychology (Tara, 2003).

In addition a sound knowledge of mathematics is of value in several areas of psychology, and in understanding statistical techniques (Tara, 2004)..................
