Stresses and strains are part of everyday living and a person needs to be able to handle everyday stress in a constructive manner.
There is a psychobiological basis for healthy living and both the body as well as the mind needs to be fit and healthy. A healthy mind is capable of influencing the physical health and a healthy body enables a person to handle the stresses in their lives positively. Along with attempts being made to counsel a person with regard to handling stress and their reaction to stress, it is also important for the counselor to ensure that the person is making efforts to keeping their body fit and healthy. A fit and health body can only be ensured by treating any ailments that may exist, eating a healthy diet, taking multivitamins and minerals along with taking adequate rest as well as sleep. A fit body also needs exercise and at least walking or jogging should be maintained, or some other healthy sports activity taken up. The exercise routine and adequate rest should be ensured as a part of every day living and the body should be provided the condition in which it can maintain its peak performance.
Along with ensuring that a fit body is being maintained and that a person is not reacting negatively to stress as a result of some medical condition or ailment that is afflicting the body, some positive psychological inputs and conditioning are also necessary. The person has to be counseled gently about the need to change their attitude and physical reaction. Positive suggestions about the need to reflect on the situation, developing trust, presenting positive suggestions can make most individuals change their mind and attitude.
