In addition, longitudinal studies are required to resolve if the handling of children and adolescents with social phobia produces lasting effects or if it thwarts a few of the additional harsh symptoms that they may experience later in their lives. At the very least, based on the positive treatment results, it is significant for counselors who work with children and young people to recognize and treat those who exhibit symptoms of phobia. Lastly, counselors need to add to the general publics' consciousness of this disorder and to adjust their counseling styles to best meet the needs of those who have phobia.
