The West Nile virus (WNV) was first spotted in the Western Hemisphere in 1999; to be specific the West Nile Virus started off from Africa, Asia and Europe. Since then it has swiftly spread across the North America. 48 continental states have been affected due to this virus, along with seven Canadian provinces and the whole of Mexico. Apart from the states in North America WNV has an also infected place like Puerto Rico, the Dominican Republic, Jamaica, Guadeloupe and El Salvador.
In report by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), more than 15,000 people have been tested positive for WNV in the U.S. since 1999; this also includes around 500 deaths. And, a lot of people have reported to have mild symptoms or were likely to be infected by the virus. The virus was first reported in Kansas in 2002, it was again reported in 2003, and then again in 2004. the natural cycle basically from a bird infected with the virus to a mosquito. The mosquito carries this virus to a host which can be either a humans and animanls such as horses.
WNV stated to be asymptomatic in humans, however, it is capable of causing wide array of diseases. Moreover, no vaccine has been developed for humans and the threatement that exist is only symptomatic. The only best way, is to employ preventive measures. The preventive measure that are best combines the personal protection in order to prevent mosquito bites and at the same time the authorities should work towards reducing the number of mosquitoes.
Explained in another way, the risk of an individual catching the disease is low, usually it is less than 1%. If a person does gets infected the patient develops serious illness from the virus...................
