Microbiologist Scientists, ever since the outbreaks of the deadly Avian Influenza have been actively carrying many researches on the cause of the virus. However for the past five years many scientists have been trying to track down avian influenza. Vincent Munster at the Erasmus Medical Center in Rotterdam has a big surveillance program. The program collects more than 8,000 samples of the avian influenza annually (Science, 2005). In the same article it was stated that around 1 and 20% of the ducks that are tested are infected with influenza and many of them do not exhibit any symptoms of the virus.
Experts on Avian flu have been doubtful that H5:N1 is being spread by wild birds only. Most of the experts are of the view that the cause of the spread due to sales of domestic bird in the country. This is because the samples of wild birds that were collected, most of the birds were carrying H5:N1 viruses were ill and were dying. The virus is very deadly and kills the infected wild duck or goose. Therefore, the possibilities of these ducks carrying the virus to populated areas are minimal.
However, on the other hand, the death of around 100 ducks, gulls, geese and swans at a lake in Mongolia has forced many experts and scientist to reevaluate the chances of wild birds carrying the virus. The lake did not have any domestic bird inhabitants nor were there any humans. Moreover, it appears that the scientist had not been using the correct sample.............
