Abstract
The purpose of this report is to write about bulimia nervosa. This report explains what bulimia nervosa is, the causes of it, the effects it has on the patient and the treatment.
Bulimia Nervosa
Bulimia Nervosa is considered to be that disorder that basically disturbs the eating habits of the person. A person who is suffering from bulimia nervosa becomes increasingly unable to relate normally to food and instead develops a dependency on a muddled sequence of binging and purging. (Mitchell, 1993) In order to prevent themselves from getting over weight people with bulimia nervosa either make themselves vomit or use laxatives or diuretics or use all of these. Others do not act in this way but instead they over fast or exercise in order to reduce the impact of over eating. (Agras, 1987)
According to a publication by Kayes that in the past patients with bulimia nervosa often were hospitalized until the most disruptive symptoms stopped but now due to an increase in remedies and treatment we hardly see any patients with this disorder hospitalised and even the hospitalization does occur it mainly takes the form of brief admissions focused on crisis management.(Kaye, 1995) Specialists in the field of eating disorders have responded to the present cost-containment measures by developing a combination of treatment modalities, including medication and individual and group psychotherapy that can be used to treat the patients with this disorder.
Causes of Bulimia Nervosa
