Diabetes is a very common disease, in recent times. It is a disorder of metabolism, which refers to the way human body use up the digested food for the purpose of growth and energy. Most of the food consumed by human body is broken down into the basic form of glucose, which is the form or the type of sugar in the blood. Glucose is very vital for all organisms as it is the main source of energy for the body.
After the process of digestion, glucose is passed out into the bloodstream, where cells for growth and energy use it. Glucose is present in the bloodstream, for glucose to pass into the cells; it is vital for insulin to be present. Insulin is a hormone, which is produced by an organ called the pancreas, which is basically a large gland located just behind the stomach.
When human body consumes food, the pancreas in turn mechanically generates just the right amount of insulin in order to transport glucose from the blood into the cells. People with diabetes, however, the pancreas is malfunctioning and thus either it produces little or no insulin at all. In other cases the cells do not act in response suitably to the insulin that is generated by pancreas. Hence, there is considerable build up of glucose in the blood, which subsequently run over into the urine, and then passes out of the body. Thereby, the body wastes its primary source of energy and fuel even supposing the blood contains large amounts of glucose.
Until now, the doctors have classified the different types of diabetes in to 3 main categories. The three main types of diabetes are, namely; type 1, type 2, and gestational diabetes.
The Type 1 diabetes is basically an autoimmune disease. An autoimmune disease is one, which is a consequence when the body's system for combating infection, known as the immune system, metamorphoses against a part of the body.................
