Steroid abuse is still increasing, and not just only proficient athletes and bodybuilders, but according to several educational efforts by health-care officials reports that numerous amateur and high school athletes looking for a syringe or a bottle of pills. What they don’t recognize is that steroids will confer them a lot more than they bargained for.
“Controlled Substances Act (CSA) defines anabolic steroids as any drug or hormonal substance chemically and pharmacologically related to testosterone (other than estrogens, progestins, and corticosteroids) that promotes muscle growth”.
The most commonly used steroids are Anabolic steroids which are imitative of the male hormone testosterone. Anabolic means a building or productive process and these steroids encourage increased muscle configuration and potency.
The American College of Sports Medicine’s states that “anabolic steroids can amplify body mass as well as muscular strength when particular to athletes who have been powerfully training in weight lifting instantly before the initiate of their steroid treatment and who persist the rigorous training as taking the steroids and preserving a high calorie, high protein diet. The amplified muscular power is surplus of the increases attained through training alone. There is no aerobic remuneration from anabolic steroid use” (Erickson, B. 1999, January 22).
Research has shown that many Athletes start taking anabolic steroid during there school. And School students who use steroid are divulging themselves to potentially stern health problems throughout the physically and expressively susceptible period when their own hormonal cycles are altering.
“High school and middle school students and athletes need to be aware of the effect steroids have on growth. Anabolic steroids, even in small doses, have been shown to stop growth too soon. Adolescents also may be at risk for becoming dependent on steroids. Adolescents who use steroids are also more likely to use other addictive drugs and alcohol”.....
