Mangosteen is recognized as the Queen of Fruits. It is one of the most admired of tropical fruits. Its scientific name is Garcinia mangostana, however most often it is denoted as the mangosteen. The taste of the fruit is praised as delicately luscious and tasty. No one knows where the fruit invented but it is thought to have occurred in the Sunda Islands and Moluccas. One can still discover wild mangosteen trees in Malaya. Scientists think that the fruit was first reclaimed in Thailand or Burma. It can now be found in, Brazil, Burma, Thailand, Central America, Hawaii, Southern India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Northern Australia Siri Lanka, Vietnam, and further tropical countries.
Mangosteen is one of the most widely recognized tropical fruits and has universal appeal because of its quality in color, shape and flavor. Widely cultivated in the Asian tropics, the mangosteen is no relation to the mango. In size and structure, it's much like a tangerine, having 5 to 8 fruit segments. The segmented flesh is soft, cream-colored and juicy. It has a tantalizingly sweet-tart flavor that is extremely refreshing. The hard skin of the mangosteen is a dark purple-brown. The mangosteen is generally considered to be the world's best flavored fruit, and is highly prized in regions where it can be grown. It is a native of the Malayan region and is common in the East Indies, Cochin China, and Ceylon. A few plants have been introduced into the West Indies, but the fruit is as yet unavailable in America. The tree is small, rarely over 30 ft. in height, with deep-green foliage. The fruit is 2 or 3 in. in length, with adherent sepals at the base. The rind is ½ in.....
