In today’s World, it is common that both parents pursue individual careers especially in western countries such as America. Modern day parents have a number of options available to them when they are considering any sort of instructive programming for their young ones. Children who attend traditional nursery schools have a parent who does not work outside of the home or has a babysitter at home. Generally, day care centers and nursery schools these days have similar curricula. Parents must choose a program where the child will be comfortable, and have a sense of association.
The facility provided to the child should be clean and attractive, with adequate staff. In America, all programs must be licensed by the state. It is compulsory that the director and staff of teachers have educational backgrounds in child development and early childhood education. “The program should have goals and a philosophy which are implemented by a curriculum which is developmentally appropriate. The children must be relaxed with their caregivers; it should be more than merely custodial care”. (Phyllis Schlafly, 1990)
While parents realize that infants need a great amount of custodial care; they may overlook the fact that during the period of Infancy primary attachments develop. Secure attachments help develop predictability and trust. Infants learn to develop and coordinate their senses rapidly. It is urgent that the importance of attachments to caregivers is high lighted.
Appreciation of the infants’ individualism and consistency of care must be stressed upon in a program. Developmentally appropriate toys such as rattles, teething toys, swings, mobiles and bouncy chairs should be available.
Toddlers can be terrific. Toddlers can also be terrible. Since they are rapidly learning about and developing their skills in the areas of language, thinking and motor control, their main task as far as development is concerned....
