We are constantly doing gender, from the time before we are born until the day we pass away. Our parents refer to us as either baby boy or baby girl if a name has not yet been decided upon. When they dress their children they dress them according to the way they want their gender to communicate with others. The process of doing gender, genderizing, goes on with the type of toys boys or girls play with. We experience genderizing through elementary school through higher levels of education such as universities (Hembold, 20).
With the progress of our educational track we will then get jobs that are also gender. We also get jobs that define who we are. Although we are taught that we can be whomever we want to be when we grow up this is not shown when you look at many occupations. People tend to define certain jobs as masculine
(male) or feminine (female) characteristics. For instance, one will see that one sex (male or female) dominates that occupation.
Going along with personal situations gender plays a major role in the changing of classes. I believe that it is harder for women to change their lifestyles because they are many times left to take care of the family and other responsibilities, which gives them less leeway to concentrate on such things as their personal education. Females are also played less then males witch puts them at a complete disadvantage to men. When women are recognized at less in the workforce they are going to have fewer choices and less freedom, especially in the ability to change their own lives (Hembold, 21).
