The New Testament, or New Covenant, is the fulfillment of the promises in the Old Testament. These fulfillments are embodied in Jesus Christ. Jesus' life, there can be no more text added to the New Testament. Jesus is sufficient revelation for us. There have been many more writings since the last of the New Testament books were included but none of them p the traditional tests that would allow them inclusion (such as the Gospel of Thomas, Barnabas, Clement, among others). In the end, it all comes down to faith. One has to choose to believe that what is in the New Testament, or the whole Bible for that matter, is exactly what God intended to be there.
I believe in a closed canon, that is, the collection of Scriptures is complete. The Westminster Confession speaks of that in chapter I, paragraph 1. There is no need for further revelation, other than "the final revelation of Jesus Christ" in His glorious return to this world.
The Scriptures are sufficient to equip God’s people for "every good work" in the times in which they live. Moreover, the apostle Peter stresses that "no prophecy of Scripture is a matter of one’s own interpretation". Prophecy is not a matter of human insights, human interpretation of times and events. Rather, it is God the Holy Spirit moving men of old to speak from God.
