Society and sociology, both contain at their core the social stratification. Social inequality is present in virtually every social process. Through the behavior of a person is ascertained his or her behavior, life chances or attitudes. All most all aspect of society is directly linked with social stratification. All the other changes and what are happening in society is understood with the help of social stratification. In the American society we can see other forms of inequality like race, gender, age etc.
Racial profiling has been around for a very long time. Some think that the racial profiling began in New Jersey. Racial profiling is practiced everywhere in the world. The term racial profiling got its prominence in the early 1990s. This term really have its start on the New Jersey Turnpike. In fact the turnpike is the main channel for the shipment of illegal drugs and other smuggled goods to the great criminal marts of the Northeast (David, 2003).
For decades black Americans have complained about this practice. Law enforcement officials across our great nation deny that racial profiling occurs, but an over whelming majority of the black community believes that racial profiling is practiced on a daily basis. During the Civil Rights Era, racial profiling was a major issue; thousands of black Americans were unnecessarily stopped and arrested based on their skin color alone.
The term racial profiling in fact began in 1994 but it was recognized nationally in April 1998. It started when two white state troopers of New Jersey tried to pull over a van for speeding.
