Among the most important concerns for the American public is the issue of crimes prevailing in the society. Several government studies and other independent information sources confirm to the fear of the general public. Despite of the widespread notion that the crime rate in the United States has considerably declined in the last few years, it is evident from several reports of law enforcement agencies that the crime rate in the United States is still considerably high as compared to the other industrialized nations. The meaning of the juvenile court system is to take a bit fatherly and protective approach toward children, whether to present humanitarian assistance or parental punishment. Juvenile court was primarily established though by a desire to keep away children from prisons by establishing special juvenile court that would not send children to prison. The juvenile court is in addition used to fairly scare the young offender with its dark wooden atmosphere and flags to symbolize how active the government is. The courts main function however is to find the best rehabilitation method for that individual. (James, 2000)
Despite the seriousness of the problem, authorities are still stuck to the traditional approaches of combating crime including giving strict punishments to the criminals, devoting money to several institutions established for the improvement of criminals and diverting finances towards the formation of a strong network of law enforcement agencies. However, people believe that this is not the solution to the problem, neither in the long run nor in the short run. People assert for a change in the policy of the government and encourage the officials to take some strict measures to combat crime. (Stoutzenbe, 2002)
