Human nature is full of surprises with variety of interlinked complex aspects. This is what has made the life of psychologists meaningful. They thrive on the complexity of human nature and set out to rectify what goes wrong with the human mind. The expressions and behavior humans adopt are the fruits of their mindful intrigues wound up in the selfish or otherwise norms and values. They try to give meaning to their surroundings and situations and are least accompanied with the rationales at times. Such are the times when counseling is needed. Psychologists while counseling try to link the ‘off- track’ behaviors with the ‘on-track’ one depending upon person to person (Peter, 2001).
Bases for the Counseling
The way people behave at any moment depends on their perceptions, interpretations, outlook, their values and beliefs about the situation. Furthermore, their changing or adopted behavior is also dependent on their physiological buildup and the way they feel at that particular situation. In other words, the way we think may lead us into a positive or negative reaction but the way we feel at that particular point of time may change the possible negative or positive reaction.
Therefore, the basic argument for the situational counseling theory is the essential identification of the ‘off-track’ behavior of individuals with that of the feelings or the thinking prevalent in their minds at that particular time. For example, thinks of a person who has been very hard-working in his academic life and was not allowed jobs since he does not have the necessary and relevant experience.
