Domestic Violence has become a global problem and is found in every society of the world. Crimes are being committed against all elements of the society. The most effected are children and women. The cases of sexual stalking are common, assaults on the women and the girls have become a general happening. The children are experiencing abuses, sexual harassment and physical assaults. Not all the victims report the violence to the law enforcement agencies because of various reasons including fear of vengeance. The rape and murders take place in large number and the same are committed generally by ex husbands and boy friends. Domestic violence is also being committed against the men and amongst same sexes also. The gays are facing the violence and lesbians are also facing the same problem. The violence is a social problem that needs to be addressed seriously by all the social setups. Serious remedial measures are required to be taken at individual, family and at government level.
Introduction
Domestic violence has become a worldwide problem in modern society. Statistics available show that the violence is on increase. It is estimated that some 5884990 cases of domestic violence were reported in America in 2001 only [Intimate partner violence 1993-2001]. There are various reasons for the domestic violence prevailing today that has given different shapes to domestic violence. The same is against every element of the society. Violence is being committed against men, women, girls, maids, servants, wives, husbands, children, students and workers. Most of the violence acts are committed against women. It is estimated that around three million violence’s are committed against women every year by their husbands or boy friends [Survey of Women Health 1999].
