Philosophy is a love of wisdom and a hunt of knowledge. Philosophy has three central branches: metaphysics, epistemology, and axiology. Each asking questions whose answers will shape beliefs and thoughts. Within the basics of these philosophies, are the educational philosophies. These include however aren't limited to: perennialism, essentialism, progressivism, social Reconstructionism, humanism, and existentialism. In contemporary times there are contrasting views about the practice of education. There is no general agreement about what the young should learn either in relation to virtue or in relation to the best life; nor is it clear whether their education ought to be directed more towards the intellect than towards the character of the soul. And it is not certain whether training should be directed at things useful in life, or at those conducive to virtue, or at non-essentials. There is no concurrence as to what in fact does tend towards virtue. Men do not all prize most extremely the same virtue, so logically they differ also about the proper training for it.

Progressivism holds that reality is comparative. Ever since knowledge is always varying, we should educate children how to think rather than what to think. This philosophy is based on evolution and John Dewey's matter-of-factness. It looks to the future rather than the past and commonly assumes that people are good by nature and that new is better than old. Progressivism is a very trendy philosophy in American public schools and universities. Unschooling seems to me to be the most progressive of the home school philosophies for the reason that it assumes that children will choose what is best for them and are capable of becoming fully.......
