Academic integrity is a known as a dedication, to a few essential values for example sincerity, faith, fairness, respect and accountability. From these standards pour out ethics of behavior that facilitates academic communities to interpret ethics into achievements. The meaning of academic integrity is to show respect for other people’s work and showing professionalism by being truthful, responsible and acting with fairness, respect and liability.
Plagiarism can be defined as is passing off somebody else’s work. In most cases it is intentional when people copy someone else’s work for their own advantage but at times it can be unintentional too. Many students face a lot of problems when they incorrectly reference or fail to give reference to the source where they got the information in the first place. Plagiarism can happen when an individual presents all or part of someone else’s published work as his own. When an individual paraphrases someone else’s work without his/her acknowledgement or represents someone else’s artistic or technical work as his own work.
If academic rights and plagiarism is not defined it will mean that anyone can steal or publish anyone’s work without paying any royalties to the original author of the work. Whenever someone else’s work is used one must always acknowledge the source where the work is taken from. And whether you are using Plato, Josephus, Machiavelli, Michelangelo, Emerson, Chesterton, you must cite your sources.
Example of plagiarism would include copying a passage from a book for an essay or research paper and counting it as your own. If a long passage is cited in a paper and the work is still under copyright, an individual will have to get permission from the author or the copyright holder before using that particular piece of work.
