Whether it is a telephonic conversation or a face to face meeting, communication is a process that requires constant attention so that desired messages reach the audience. Wrong communication is a source for misunderstanding and conflict.

A businessperson is required to go through a series of meetings throughout the day. Getting of on the right foot is absolutely necessary whether you are communicating with a client or a colleague. This would result in smooth flow of the following encounters. Starting the communication with a mistake can be potentially tough to recover from. The following strategies help one get off on a successful start.
Standing up:
This allows eye contact with the visitor which sends through a positive message. Remaining seated gives an impression that the other person is not important enough to make an effort to stand.
Smile:
Facial expressions always say more than words. You must look pleased to meet the other person shrugging off any negative thoughts in your mind. Greeting the visitor with a smile reflects your happiness to see him/her.
Eye contact: Making direct eye contact with the people you meet gives them an impression that you are focused and interested in them. Staring somewhere else would show that you are waiting for someone of your liking to come along.
Introduction:
As soon as the first contact is made, introduce yourself to the people present. Do not wait or stand around as if you are waiting for someone else to introduce you.
