The terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001, changed my life in a way I could not even imagine. Having terrorists attack us in the very heart of America with such skill and precision despite the presence of enhanced security truly frightened me. I felt that I was not safe lying in my bed even with all the doors and windows locked. It also brought me closer to God.
It made me believe in Him in a way I could not even think I could have done. I sought and found strength in His grace and now nothing can shake my faith and trust in His glory. It has also made me more patriotic than before. It has made me believe in the greatness and beauty of my country. Now I make sure I keep the flag flying somewhere in my house, if not on the top of my house. Having said all that, I do not believe in the way the United States government has gone about punishing the terrorists who perpetrated the heinous attacks.
Attacking Afghanistan and taking out the Taliban has only resulted in installing a puppet of the Bush administration in the form of the president Hamid Karzai, a man elected by a very small minority in the country. The country’s infrastructure, laid waste by two decades of war, was further destroyed. Poppy cultivation has resumed and the gunrunning across the border from Pakistan and back has taken strength. Cable television is banned in the country: so much for Karzai’s “liberal” government.
A similar but much worse fiasco has been perpetrated in Iraq, where a country with a proper sanitation, water, gas and electricity system has been bombed to smithereens, plunging Iraqis into desolation. Moreover it has divided the country into small pockets of resistance to the...........
