The Engineering in Environment is completely certified by the Engineering Accreditation Board. Graduates from the program meet the educational necessities for registration as a professional engineer. Broad ranges of topics are covered in the program from life cycle study and environmental impact assessment, to the devise of industrial wastewater treatment processes and waste containment systems for solid and hazardous waste management. Their study includes the following four broad areas that are:
- Air pollution control
- Groundwater flow and contaminant transport
- Solid and hazardous waste management and
- Water and wastewater treatment
Environmental Engineering is a multidisciplinary course involving the Faculties of Engineering, Science, as well as Environmental Studies. The two key foci of the Environmental Engineering Program are the following: the incorporation of environmental and ecological issues within the planning, design, operation and management of industrial and further scientific processes; and the management, use, and protection of our natural environment which engrosses the control, treatment, remediation and risk assessment features of the solid, liquid and gaseous wastes that are related with living in a modern society.
(E.R. Abraham, et al.2000)
Typical activities for environmental engineers include:
- Monitoring discharges for regulatory compliance;
- Operating systems for reducing and utilizing solid waste;
- Designing municipal or hazardous waste disposal sites;
- Monitoring air pollution and operating control equipment;
- Predicting movement of contaminants in air, water, and soil;
- Devising contaminated site remediation schemes;
- Developing pollution control technologies for industries;
- Developing environmental regulations; and
- Providing input into environmental impact assessment hearings.

The Environmental Engineering has two divisions that are Chemical Environmental Engineering and Civil Environmental Engineering. Chemical Environmental engineering mainly centers on the planning, design, operation and management of industrial and other technological processes. Civil Environmental engineering mainly centers on environmental management and the minimization.......
