“Beginning in 1975, as the Vietnam War ended, those that had come to America began to organize among themselves to secure basic rights. The Vietnamese Americans have decided to use a variety of ways to acquire their basic rights. They have submitted themselves to many ways to acquire a total equilibrium in the society. In a major sense, they have subjected themselves to a gradual growth in economic development.
Initially, the Vietnamese Americans wanted to be patient and work slowly into a good economic conditioned environment. In California, the Vietnamese Americans have created their own communities. In 1988, the district in the city of Westminster was named "Little Saigon." This was one major accomplishment of the Vietnamese Community. They organized themselves and formed a powerful and well-respected community. "Little Saigon" is called a "large language island" within the city.
This "large language island" has acquired a status of almost the Vietnamese culture. The telephone directories are published in Vietnamese, and other books are also written and published in Vietnamese. The county is called the Orange County where people can obtain all necessary services without using the English language. The Vietnamese at home provides all basic needs of the people, including social services and health care”(Human right Acquisitions)
