Bluetooth: An Introduction
Bluebooth is a wireless specification for a low-cost, low-power, small form factor radios that links laptops, mobile phones, and other portable devices from various manufacturers without the need for line of sight. It is a sophisticated technology developed to make things simple. It does so by “wiring” together consumer electronics and computing appliances within the self-styled Personal Operating Space (POS). Bluetooth, namely wireless connectivity among devices within the POS, provides the technological requisites. These wirelessly connected devices create a network called a Wireless Personal Area Network (WPAN). The understandable applications within a WPAN are in the office workspace. With Bluetooth technology, the indispensable workspace electronic devices will be wirelessly networked together. This could include desktop, mobile computer, printer, handheld computer, and mobile phone, pager, portable stereo, etc. For instance, wirelessly checking e-mail in an airport by connecting to data access points or wirelessly printing documents from the printer in the back of the plane. The less-observable applications of WPAN are outside the scope of the business environment. Examples of these applications could be: an oven that sends a message to the TV you are watching when your meat loaf is done, or a gun that only fires when an authorized person uses it.
