What is Annotated Bibliogrpahy?
Before going straight
to the topic, let me explain you the words annotated and bibliography. The word
“annotated” is the third form of the verb “to annotate” which means to supply or
to comment. The word bibliography is itself a compound word, compose of two
words; biblio and graphy. The word bibilio means book or model and graphy
denotes something drawn or written.
An annotation can simply be called as summary or abstract of any written source.
While bibliography is a list of source materials that are used and consulted
while preparing an
academic essay. Now putting them together, an annotated bibliography is an
organized list of sources and references on a topic that offers a summary for
each source.
A bibliography provides a list of research sources. Each source represents a
citation that includes the author name, title, and publication details of the
source. Mentioning the sources, act as a witness that all the work done is legal
and all the research conducted is valid. It helps the readers to examine whether
the work cited is relevant to particular research or not. In the same way one
can proof his effort is authorized and back up claims and arguments. Citing also
facilitate in adding credit to the research papers.
An annotated bibliography is divided into parts. The first is the bibliography
line and the other is called summary paragraph. First part should be written in
any of the two formats i.e. MLA format, and APA format. Both parts together
called “Entry”. Entries are generally a prearranged list of information such as
name of an author or the title of a book in the alphabetical order.
An excellent annotated bibliography enables the author to be very careful in
selecting the content to be used. It encourages the writer to create his own
ideas and develop some current research work. It allows the researchers to
decide whether the source will be supportive in their research and make their
work a professional one. This draft serve to notify the readers about the
relevance, accuracy, and quality of the sources cited.
